A wonderful book about the Law of Attraction is the teachings of Abraham by Esther and Jerry Hicks. This Abraham-Hicks book presents the powerful basics from the original dialog between Abraham and Jerry Hicks. From these Teachings of Abraham, Abraham (speaking through Esther Hicks) first revealed how all things, wanted and unwanted, are brought to you by this most powerful Law of the Universe: the Law of Attraction (that which is like unto itself is drawn). You’ve most likely heard the sayings “Like attracts like,” or “It is done unto you as you believe” (a belief is only a thought you keep thinking); and although the Law of Attraction has been alluded to by some of the greatest teachers in history, it has never before been explained in as clear and practical terms as it is here. You’ll learn about the omnipresent Laws that govern this Universe and how to make them work to your advantage. The knowledge that you’ll absorb from listening to Abraham’s wisdom will take all the guesswork out of daily living. You’ll finally understand just about everything that’s happening in your own life, as well as the lives of those you’re interacting with; and you will find out how you can joyously be, do, or have anything that you desire!
Wayne Dyer’s current message about tapping into the power of intention may sound like good old positive thinking: just stay focused on what you want, rather than focusing on the lack of having what you want. But the teaching here goes deeper than just controlling thoughts (although he does acknowledge that thought control is a surprisingly challenging and significant endeavor). This book might help readers land a better job, but it’s more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the “power of intention.” He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source “connectors” and describes them as “individuals who have made themselves available for success…They don’t say With my luck things won’t work out. Instead, you’re more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out.” Connectors are also committed to Dyer’s “seven faces of intention”–creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with five suggestions for becoming stronger connectors, such as how to monitor one’s inner speech or shift out of low-energy beliefs.
When it comes to creating the life you want, Shakti Gawain literally wrote the book. Now considered a classic, Creative Visualization teaches readers how to use their imaginations to manifest their deepest desires. In a straight-talking narrative, Gawain uses the first part to cover the basics, with chapters such as “How to Visualize,” “Affirmations,” and “Creative Visualization Only Works for the Good.” Once she shows readers how visualization actually works, Gawain moves on to loftier discussions, such as “Contacting Your Higher Self,” “Meeting Your Guide,” “Setting Goals,” and “Treasure Maps.” Fear not; this isn’t a spiritual-lightweight book for people with a severe case of the “gimmes.” Gawain has her priorities in the right place, and she cautions readers that creative visualization will not serve greed or shallow-minded thinking. For example, she discourages the cycle of trying to have more money, so you can do what you want in life, so you will be happier. “The way it actually works is the reverse,” she explains. “You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.” Yet she also writes an excellent chapter on letting go of the misguided guilt that inhibits readers from becoming truly prosperous. Gawain’s self-help title has sold more than three million copies in English and another three million in the more than 30 languages into which it has been translated. According to the publisher, this revised anniversary edition contains additional “meditations, exercises, and techniques that can become part of your everyday routine.” The author asserts that people can achieve an ideal existence simply through mental visualization.
